Daily Dish 5.15
Not a ton of craziness on Saturday’s slate but, of the few, there were some interesting scores:
Mahtomedi 8 vs EP 2: I thought this game would be closer. I felt like these two teams were similar but Mahtomedi pretty much dominated. EP only scoring two goals is interesting. I know they haven’t been lighting up the scoreboard, but, 2 goals is concerning. Was this good game planning by Mahtomedi? I know they have a good face-off guy so maybe they just controlled the ball a lot. Stats are not up and I don’t have any reports from the game, so, I won’t speculate. Is Mahtomedi getting hot at the right time here?
Wayzata 7 v Rochester Mayo 3: Man, this was Mayo’s chance. I really felt like they were going to compete and maybe even win this game. Another very surprising offensive output. Reports of the game are that Wayzata rolled out the 10 man ride for the whole game and Mayo struggled to deal with it. The Wayzata goalie also supposedly had a 90% save ptg? Wow, if true. Official stats are not up yet, so, we will wait and see.
TriMac 20 v Mound Westonka 8: Injury news, the M-W face off guy, who is 77% on the season, was injured in the previous game and I think this factored huge in the game. That being said, TriMac is 7-1 now this year and having one heck of a season. They play an extremely weak schedule, but, they are dominating those teams. Hopefully this will springboard them to schedule some tougher games next year - would love to see that program continue to rise. As for MW, missing one of your most impactful players is tough, so, I won’t over react to this, they are also having a heck of a season and a team on the rise.
