Slate Breakdown 4.14 & 4.15
Doing a double slate on one post because tonight (Friday) there are only 3 games.
FRIDAY 4/14
Minnetonka vs Orono is intriguing for me mainly because I think Minnetonka could be one of the top 5 teams this season. It has been talked about ad-nauseum about the way they finished last season. Whatever the reason, they should be pretty motivated to “prove the doubters wrong” as a large portion of their team from last year returns. I expect this one to be one sided on Minnetonka’s favor, but a close matchup would intrigue me both on where Orono is heading as well as if Tonka is writing the same story as last year.
Wayzata and Champlin Park also play tonight. I think both of these programs are sitting somewhere in the middle of the pack statewide, but, both teams were once extremely strong. Wayzata won 5 of their last 7 games last year, only losing to Shakopee and BSM - two of the states top programs. Champlin Park struggled a bit last season but did have some “close losses” to better teams. If it was due to “youth” - maybe they have a chance to be a more improved team this season
SATURDAY 4/15
The first of two big games on Saturday is Bloomington Jefferson vs Rosemount. Jefferson dropped their first game 6-2 to Shakopee and turn right around to play another SSC mainstay, in the Irish from Rosemount. This will be Rosemount’s first game of the year so wondering if Jefferson may be able to right the ship after a whole week in Arizona as a team and a game under their belt. We will see. This one is generally a low scoring affair. I expect Rosemount’s offense to be much better this season… I am taking Rosemount in a 9-6 game.
The marquee game of the day and probably the week is BSM vs Stillwater. A rematch of last year’s state semi-final and our first GAME OF THE WEEK - click the link to read more!
