2023 MPM’s Preseason Section 1 Top 4

1.       Lakeville South

2.       Rochester Century

3.       Lakeville North

4.       Farmington

Summary

No changes to the teams that are in Section 1.

Seeds 2, 3, 4 are basically tied with each other…Century has most of their scoring and goalie back (against a weaker schedule).  North then gets the nod over Farmington, because they lost less than Farmington did…and both get to play SSC schedules…

Century’s toughest non-conference games are Lakeville North and Farmington, so their record should be gaudier then the two playing a SSC schedule.

North plays a few tough non-conference games (Edina, Minnetonka) along with Rochester Century pretty early

Farmington also plays some tough non-conference games (Hill-Murray, Blake, Minnetonka) and end the season against Rochester Century.

North plays Farmington May 19.

Section Preview

1 – Lakeville South (2022 1 seed in section 1, 18-1)

This section is getting much stronger below Lakeville South (2022 18-1:  lost early in season to Chan 10-9).  It won’t be enough to knock Lakeville South of the top spot this year, but the rest of the top 4 seeds are really interesting.

Lost:

Ms. Goalie, and 1st Team All State Lindsey Wirfs, GK (D1 – Navy and now @ D1 - San Diego State)

1st Team All State Brielle Fannin, Attack – 117 points (D2 - UCCS)

2nd Team All State Lauren Sheets, Attack – 75 points (D2 - CSP)

Returning:

’23 Emily Moes, Attack/Mid - 53 points in only 11 games (D1 California)

She is our preseason #1 player in MN Girls Lacrosse.  Check out these stats:

2019 (8th grader): 53g + 8a = 61 points, 73 DCs

2021: 76g+25a = 101 points, 109 DCs

2022: 43g+15a = 58 points (11 games)

Imagine if there was a 2020 year and she didn’t tear her ACL summer of 2021 (impacting her 2022 season)!  61 points and 73 DCs as an 8th grader in SSC – COME ON!!

2nd Team All State ’23 Gabby Bouman, Mid - 75 points (D1 Xavier)

2nd Team All State ’24 Tori Tschida, Mid - 53 points (D1 Temple)

2nd Team All State ’24 Katie Grubbs, Defense - 33 points

’24 Sivanna O’Brien, Mid - 49 points (D2 Dominican)

‘24 Christina Swirtz, Attack - 31 points

’24 Kali Nyberg, Defense (D2 Dominican)

2 - Rochester Century (2022 4 seed in section 1, 11-4)

They lost a lot of players, but most of their production returns.  We slept on them last year.  Hot take alert!!!  That’s why we are correcting the issue and pre-season ranking them second!  Their losses last year were Park 7-3, Farmington 9-6, Owatonna 8-7, and Lakeville South 21-0.  They also beat Owatonna 10-9 and 7-2 to avenge one of those losses.

Lost:

10 seniors

Returning:

Top 3-point earners

’23 Sophie Langsdale, Attack/Mid – 71 points

’25 Olivia Morrissey, Attack/Mid – 34 points

’24 Katelyn Moe, Attack/Mid – 30 points

’23 – GK Abigail Conners – 59.3%

3 - Lakeville North (2022 3 seed in section 1, 5-10)

Lost only a few seniors and has a strong 2024 class and a shining 2025 player (assuming South doesn’t poach any of them).

Lost:

Olivia Purdy - injured (D2 St. Leo)

Mya Snyder – 28 points (D2 Northern Michigan)

Returning:

’25 Shay Swanson, Attack/Mid – 44 points

‘24 Izzy Bohlman, Attack/Mid – 17 points

’24 Kayla Ross, Attack/Mid – 12 points

’24 Leah Hahs, Attack – 10 points

’24 Brooke Wagenbach – GK 45.1%

’23 Alex Ward – DNP in 2022 (D2 University of Findlay)

4 - Farmington (2022 2 seed in section 1, 12-4)

Lost a lot (their top 3 scores and their goalie), but has a young and sneaky strong core that will be tough in 2024 and 2025.  Haters will say we are dissing Farm-town, but we think they’re going to be stout down the line – its just too early to have 2024 and 2025 preseason predictions…other than Farmington will be higher than 4.

Lost:

11 seniors, including top 3-point earners:

Sam Moehle – 51 points

Grace Schaeffer – 48 points

Karlie Bakker – 40 points (play at U of M club!)

Jules Hehr – GK, 49.4% Save

Returning:

’23 Makenna Kadrik, Attack/Mid – 24 points

’25 Riley Wicklund, Def/Mid – 20 points

’25 Caprese Meier, Attack – 12 points

’26 Jada Steffes, Attack/Mid – 10 points

’25 Kendall Sainsbury, Defense – 44 CT
