DTA Power Rankings: GIRLS – May 1

The Source wasn’t going to be left out of the power rankings bit!

1.     Lakeville South (3-0):  Three blow outs to start the season vs Owatonna, EV/E and the shocker against Chanhassen.  Plays BSM 5/5.  Still has Rosemount, Stillwater, and Prior Lake later in season.  Multi-pronged attack led by Emily Moes and Tori Tschida dominating the draw circle.  Got to take the crown away and Chan couldn’t even spell “crown”.

2.     Prior Lake (4-0):  Beat Stillwater 10-8, Edina 14-8, and had blow outs vs Simley and Shako.  Plays Chan on 5/5 in a game that has a totally different shine on it than it did.  Has EP, Rosemount and South later in the season.  PL sets them up and knocks them down.  So many scoring options, its just a matter of who will step up each night.  Got Sadie Chappuis back this week, so that’s not going to hurt them.

3.     BSM (5-0):  Beat EP 12-9 and Blake 13-10 for their big wins.  Has South on 5/5 and Wayzata 5/8.    Plays Chan later in the year.  Maggie Graczyk has 24g/8a/32 points.  Almost 5 GPG?  Nifty start to the season.  Has two other players with 20+ points (Julia Evens 29 and Charlize Vang 20).  Brook Nelson going with a 60.3% and 6.17 GAA is not too shabby.

4.     Stillwater (5-1):  Lost to PL 10-8 to start season and beat CDH 15-12.  In the middle of a stretch here with CDH (already played), Rosemount (huge OT comeback win), Park and WBL.  Also has Woodbury, Lakeville South and Edina.  That’s not an easy schedule.

5.     Edina (4-1):  Best win was vs EP, 13-10.  Lost to PL on 4/27, 14-8. Has Tonka, Buffalo, Rosemount, Wayzata, Blake and Stillwater, in that order to close out the year.  Nicola Santoni is leading the way with 19g/2a for the Hornets.

6.     Chanhassen (3-1):  Beat Tonka 13-9 and EP 14-3, lost to South 16-3. Blake 5/4 and PL 5/5.  Also play CDH and BSM before the end of the season.  Pretty disappointing performance by the Storm against South.  Were outplayed in literally every phase of the game.  Very surprising.  Zoe Zielinksi was on crutches at the game.

7.     Minnetonka (5-1):  Lost to Chan to start year 13-9 and then had 5 pretty easy wins.  Plays Wayzata on 5/4 and Edina, EP and Buffalo later this season

8.     Blake (4-1):  Beat Farmington 15-8, Simley 12-10, and Wayzata 10-7.  Suffered a loss to BSM 13-10.  Has games left @ Chan 5/4, along with H-M, MG, EP, and Edina yet on their schedule.  Cynthia Lyman and Sally Countryman lead the way with 17 points each through 3 games.

9.     Eden Prairie (2-3):  Lost to BSM by 3, Edina by 3, and Chan by 11.  Has Wayzata 5/2, Tonka on 5/11 and PL on 5/13, and Blake 5/16.  5 players with double digits points already, defense needs to help the GKs keep the goals off the board.

10.  Maple Grove (4-0):  Wins over Centennial (11-6), Andover (14-3) and Elk River Zimmerman (10-9) put MG firmly in the second spot in section 5. They have 4 easier games before playing Armstrong 5/10 and Blake 5/12.  End the season @ Champlin Park 5/24.  Scoring led by Ella Olson (15 points), Leah Muscatello (14 points), Sosi Van Wyk (10 points)

11.  Gentry (1-0):  Beat Visitation.  Has a silly easy schedule.  We know they’re good.  Its too bad there wouldn’t have been room for Jordin Rosga on this squad…and they don’t play a tougher schedule like every team does above them on this list.  They haven’t done much of anything yet for anyone to make an evaluation on.

12.  Rosemount (3-2):  Red flags are flying high right now in Irish land.  2 goal win over Jefferson and 1 goal win over Lakeville North do not make a comfortable situation…losing to H-M is even worse.  They righted the ship a little against Simley, and led 12-6 in the second half against Stillwater, before being outscored 7-1 in last 20 minutes and OT.  Don’t worry – after Stillwater they’ve got, ER/Z, Edina, Lakeville South, and Prior Lake.  Their 4 leading point scorers are 2025s…so things will get a lot better in next few years. Ultimate learning year…but they also started SLOW last year and then went wild at end of season.  Of course, they’re 3 goals away from being 5-0.

13.  Centennial (4-1):  Lost to Maple Grove 11-6 to start season.  Just beat Andover 6-3.  Has Armstrong on 5/3 and Champlin Park and ER/Z later this year.  Ella O’Hearn is going at a 6.2 PPG clip (31 points over 5 games)

14.  White Bear Lake (4-1):  Lost a 1g game to Park.  JP’s darling team.  Kicked the shit out of H-M.  Has Woodbury on 5/3 and Stillwater 5/5.  Rest should be doable, but we’ll pay attention to East Ridge and Mahtomedi.

15.  CDH (4-2):  Win Friday against Stillwater and this team shoots WAY up, lose and they stay around here…so they stayed around here.  Then ends the season with Chanhassen, Park and Buffalo.  They might be good, but we get a strong “beating up on flawed teams” vibe from them.  Sofia Watts (29/8) and Jordin Rosga (25/10) lead the way scoring for CDH.

16.  Wayzata (5-1):  Best wins so far was 15-10 over Buffalo and 8-5 over Champlin Park.  Things are now getting real for them with the next four games, Blake (10-7 loss), EP, Minnetonka and BSM.  They also have Armstrong, Edina and Andover to finish the season.  Yikes.

17.  Andover (3-2):  Lost 14-2 to MG, and 6-3 to Centennial.  Beat ER/Z 5-4.  Scoring seems to be the issue here with Eva Bock showing off her 61.8% and 5.80 GAA.

18.  Elk River/Zimmerman (2-2):  Lost 1 g games against Maple Grover and Andover.  Have Rosemount, Centennial, Champlin Park and Armstrong left.  They’re 4 goals away from being 4-0 and being ranked like 9th-11th.  Adria Kotzian with 21/12 through 4 games.

19.  Armstrong (4-0):  Similar to last year, really has had a soft schedule to start the year.  They play Centennial on 5/3 and then have MG, Wayzata, Champlin Park, Andover and ER/Z later.  Very level scoring with top 4 scoring 11 or 10 points respectively.

20.  Champlin Park (4-1):  Throws up GAUDY stats and then got punched in the mouth vs Wayzata (losing 8-5). Has Andover, Centennial, Armstrong, ER/Z in that order and then finishing with MG.

21.  Buffalo (4-2):  Lost 15-10 to Wayzata and 9-7 to STMA.  Not a great look.  Don’t play ER/Z.  Not a great look for either team.  Has EP, Edina, Minnetonka, and CDH.   They MUST have 2 wins from that group.  3 if they are for real.  At least they made our list – pretty sure Ted left the boys off of everything.

22.  Southwest Christian (6-0):  Plays Monday vs Holy Family.  Finally got roster and stats into MLH.  Through 4 games, THE SOPHOMORE (Gisella Harder) has 18g, 8a, 22 GB, 16 CT, and 32 DC.  Good night.

23.  Park (4-1):  We were just about ready to start talking real smart about park going into their Stillwater game on May 3…and then Woodbury just went and fouled that all up for us!  Slipped down a few spots because of that…no excuses.

24.  East Ridge (4-2):  Lurking.  Beat Woodbury by 1g and then got smoked by Stillwater.   Lost an OT game to Mahtomedi.  Have CDH, Park, WBL and H-M left.

25. Woodbury (4-2):  Just watched one of their top players roll her ankle. Lost to ER by 1g and then a closer game than 15-8 score vs CDH suggests.  The came back and upset Park 12-10.  Not an easy schedule left:  WBL this week…with Stillwater and BSM later this season.  We like the gumption.  The Park win is confusing us…we can’t put you over ER when they beat you a week ago.  But we’re watching.

Others: Hill-Murray, Chaska, Mahtomedi, Farmington
