DTA Power Rankings: GIRLS – May 15
Best lacrosse season so far in MN – glad we are along for the ride! Now featuring the Power Ranking Groups!
NCAA Division 2
1. Lakeville South (8-0): Listen…we want to be really clear…we think Lakeville South is head and shoulders the best team in MN glax. Huge limb we are out on there. Is their schedule too easy? Are they just too good? Would it matter?
Key games: Beat Chan 16-3, beat BSM 16-9.
The Legit Squad
2. Prior Lake (9-0): We don’t know if they can beat South, but we are REALLY excited to watch them try on May 23 – if things play out as projected that HAS to be the must-see game of the regular season (we might even be there to take it in). Scores in bunches and from practically anyone on their team – not just their seniors. @ Rosemount 5/18 and close their season 5/23 vs Lakeville South.
Key games: Beat Stillwater 10-8, beat Edina 14-8, beat Chan 17-10, beat EP 20-14.
3. Edina (9-1): Halfway through a very tough end to their schedule…and we know a lot about Edina. They’re good. Have @Wayzata, @Blake and @Stillwater left. Looking less tough than it did last weekend.
Key games: Beat EP 13-10, lost to PL 14-8, beat Tonka 17-3, beat Rosemount 13-7.
4. BSM (8-1): Big game coming up against Chan on 5/16. Noise coming from Scarlet Knight-ville that one of their studs suffered a serious injury – working to confirm the rumors. Hope not.
Key games: Beat EP 12-9, beat Blake 13-10, lost to Lakeville South 16-9, beat Wayzata 11-5.
5. Maple Grove (10-0): Movin’ on up….to the…Northwest side! Maple Grove has officially entered the chat. Some might say they are…legit… If you’re a source that likes math (like us) – LaxNumbers have MG rated 4! Two easier ones and then end at a plucky Champlin Park.
Key games: Beat Centennial 11-6, beat Andover 14-3, beat Elk River Zimmerman 10-9, beat Armstrong 13-3, beat Blake 10-3.
Lurking
6. Stillwater (8-2): Escaped with a 1 goal win against Woodbury. Definitely more good for Woodbury in the loss, then Stillwater in the win. They are fortunate that other teams had worse weeks. End season @Lakeville South and vs Edina. That’s not an easy schedule. We are paying VERY close attention.
Key games: Beat CDH 15-12, beat Rosemount 14-13 in OT, lost to PL 10-8, lost to Park 6-5, beat Woodbury 11-10.
7. Eden Prairie (5-4): If you want to see what it takes to rise in the rankings going 1-1 with a 5-4 record, this is it. Go whip the hell out of your closest section opponent 17-3 and then never back down in a track meet against the #2 team in the state.
Key games: Beat Wayzata 10-9, lost to BSM 12-9, lost to Edina 13-10, lost Chan 14-3, beat Tonka 17-3, lost to PL 20-14.
8. CDH (8-2): Alright CDH. Time to bring the show to the lights. Chance for the #1 seed in section 3 if you win out against Chan, Park, and Buffalo. VERY do-able.
Key games: Beat Woodbury 15-8, lost to White Bear Lake 9-8, lost to Stillwater 15-12.
9. Chanhassen (5-3): Things are not good right now for the Storm. Only one game this week and it was a 12-9 loss to…checking our notes…Bloomington Jefferson? Pretty sure they didn’t see that one coming. Have a very plucky CDH team May 15 and at BSM May 16. That’s a tough back-to-back situation for a reeling team. Been a while since their last good win. Must have at least one…and seriously both of these wins. Then the path to playoffs gets a lot easier.
Key games: Beat Tonka 13-9, beat EP 14-3, beat Blake 15-8, lost to South 16-3, lost to PL 17-10, lost to Bloomington Jefferson 12-9.
10. Minnetonka (7-3): Think Chan had a tough week? How about X2 for Tonka? Losses to Edina and EP really put the Skippers in a tough spot for the section. End with Buffalo, Breck and Chaska – those are all winnable…but Chaska can hang a lot of goals on the board – tread carefully. Really only has one “quality” win and that was against Wayzata. This close to falling into the last group.
Key games: Lost to Chan 13-9, beat Wayzata 15-10, lost to Edina 17-3, lost to EP 16-11
11. Blake (6-3): Sorry Blake, you’re falling down the rankings. Nice win against H-M, but you got knocked around by Maple Grove 10-3. Sally Countryman is out for the year and mega star Ellie Morrison isn’t 100% right. Has EP May 16, and a new giant killer in Bloomington Jefferson May 18. Ends season May 23 against Edina.
Key games: Beat Wayzata 10-7, lost to BSM 13-10, lost to Chan 15-8, lost to Maple Grove 10-3.
12. Gentry (6-0): Wish they’d play a schedule worth something. This is such a fun season and we think they’re a decent team. Stillwater is ripe for the picking, so maybe we’ll get to see them play some real team this post season.
Key games: Beat Hutchinson 15-2
MSHSL Banned Noise Makers
13. Park (9-1): Two easy wins and then a solid one against East Ridge. CDH vs Park for Section 3 is coming up Wednesday. After that, two easier games to end the season. Imagine if they beat Woodbury in the end of April…we’d be talking 8-10 in the power ranking.
Key games: Beat White Bear Lake 7-6, beat Stillwater 6-5, lost to Woodbury 12-10, beat East Ridge 5-3.
14. White Bear Lake (8-2): Keeping the write up from last week – nothing changes: Hardest games left are @ East Ridge 5/17 and @ Mahtomedi 5/25. All things considered, those are still “should wins.” How far can they move up the power rankings with those as the toughest games?
Key games: Beat H-M 12-5, beat CDH 9-8, beat Woodbury 13-10, lost to Park 7-6, lost to Stillwater 12-4.
15. Elk River/Zimmerman (7-2): We asked for a win of consequence. We got one against Rosemount. Big week coming up for the Elks. Still have Centennial (May 15), Champlin Park (May 17), and Armstrong (May 24). 4 goals away from being undefeated.
Key games: Lost to Maple Grove 10-9, lost to Andover 5-4, beat Rosemount 9-7.
16. Champlin Park (8-1): What we said last week, “OK CP…show us you’re something.” You did! Have a week CP! Beating Andover and Centennial means you get to move up. Keep it up against ERZ 5/17 and if you beat MG 5/24 – watch out. Really wondering about that Wayzata loss now…what could have been…
Key games: Lost to Wayzata 8-5, beat Andover 7-6, beat Centennial 15-3.
17. Woodbury (6-4): One of our darlings! Uninspired win against Mounds View, but a very inspired loss to Stillwater. Two winnable games before ending against BSM.
Key games: Beat H-M 9-8, beat Simley 12-11, beat Park 12-10, lost to East Ridge 6-5, lost CDH 15-8, lost to WBL 13-10, lost to Stillwater 11-10.
18. Bloomington Jefferson (6-3): Well, well, well. You beat a top 5 team, and that pretty much meats any possible definition of making noise.
Key games: Lost to Rosemount 11-9, lost to Edina 11-2, lost to BSM 17-4, beat Chan 12-9
Yeah, We Know
19. Rosemount (6-4): Need a quality win. Has not earned one, although if Jefferson continues to punch above their weight, that might back into one. Sorry. True. Things get VERY real this week against South on Tuesday and Prior Lake on Thursday. Not on the way up.
Key games: Beat Bloomington Jefferson 11-9, lost to Hill Murray 9-8, lost to Stillwater, 14-13, lost to ERZ 9-7, lost to Edina 13-7.
20. Andover (6-3): Well…need to beat Armstrong or Wayzata as the regular season closes out. Did not go so well against Champlin Park.
Key games: Beat ER/Z 5-4, lost to MG 14-3, lost to Centennial 6-3, lost to Champlin Park 7-6.
21. Centennial (6-2): Ahhh…what happened against Champlin Park? Got a tough one coming up against ERZ and then they should be able to win out. Shaping up to be the #2 seed unless Champlin Park really spits the bit coming down the home stretch.
Key games: Beat Andover 6-3, beat Armstrong 9-8, lost to Maple Grove 11-6, lost to Champlin Park 15-3.
22. Wayzata (6-5): Whoa. No shame in losing to BSM. Did not see the loss to Hop. Nice job rallying against Armstrong. Still have Edina and Andover left. There’s a real world where they finish below .500 after starting 5-0.
Key games: Beat Champlin Park 8-5, lost to Blake 10-7, lost to EP 10-9, lost to Tonka 15-10, lost to BSM 11-5, lost to Hopkins 9-8.
23. Mahtomedi (7-2): Maybe we’ve been overly harsh on Zephyr-ville. If they take care H-M and Simley this week…we will be paying real attention.
Key games: Lost to CDH 16-5, beat East Ridge 10-9
24. East Ridge (6-4): Tough week here for the Raptors. Got boat raced by CDH and followed that up with a loss to Park. WBL is next…
Key games: Beat Woodbury 6-5, lost to Stillwater 14-3, lost to Mahtomedi 10-9, lost to CDH 18-8, lost to Park 5-3.
25. Armstrong (6-3): Tough week.
Key games: Lost to Centennial 9-8, lost to Maple Grove 13-3, lost to Wayzata 11-6.
Others: Southwest Christian (10-1), Hill-Murray (5-4), Chaska (4-3), Buffalo (5-5), Hopkins (4-5), Chisago Lakes (8-0)
