DTA Power Rankings: GIRLS – May 8
Storylines are starting to pop – we try to give you a quick outline for 30% of the entire league!
1. Lakeville South (5-0): South’s dominance continues with their 16-9 win over BSM on Friday. Rumors were that they were up 12-2 and if so, good on BSM for making a slight comeback. They have an easier schedule this week, but still play Rosemount, Stillwater and Prior Lake. They have 6 players with 17 points or more led by our Ms. Lacrosse Emily Moes (23/14/37). They also have 93 DCs to their opponent’s 28 (76.9% win rate). Silly.
Key games: Beat Chan 16-3, beat BSM 16-9.
2. Prior Lake (6-0): Has EP, Rosemount and South later in the season. They’re led by their three senior D1 commits, but spread the scoring out among their juniors and sophomores as well. Through 5 games 2024 Kayleigh Sandell has a 12/3/15 spread (and had a huge game against Chan per KT), Sadie Chappuis is still working her way through a return from ACL reconstruction, and their 2025s are starting to chip in (Abby Grove, Tali Baldzicki, and Sophia Basile). Do they have enough to catch South?
Key games: Beat Stillwater 10-8, beat Edina 14-8, beat Chan 17-10.
3. Edina (6-1): Starting Tuesday, this is Edina’s schedule: @Tonka, Buffalo, Rosemount, @Wayzata, @Blake and @Stillwater. We will know A LOT about A LOT of teams with those games, and especially Edina.
Key games: Beat EP 13-10, lost to PL 14-8.
4. BSM (6-1): Has a dynamic 2024 duo in Maggie Graczyk (31/11/42) and Julia Evens (25/15/40). Getting lots of support from 2025 Charlize Vang (15/13/28). Plays Wayzata Monday, 5/8 and Chan 5/16.
Key games: Beat EP 12-9, beat Blake 13-10, lost to Lakeville South 16-9.
5. Chanhassen (5-2): Really interested in their CDH and BSM games coming up. We plan to watch the Chan vs PL game stream after this is written up so may have more takes in that game recap.
Key games: Beat Tonka 13-9, beat EP 14-3, beat Blake 15-8, lost to South 16-3, lost to PL 17-10.
6. Minnetonka (7-1): Has two tougher games this week vs Edina and @ Eden Prairie. They HAVE to go 1-1 to stay here and HAVE to go 2-0 to be considered more serious.
Key games: Beat Wayzata 15-10, lost to Chan 13-9.
7. Blake (5-2): Next game is vs H-M, then goes @MG, vs EP, before ending season vs Edina. Right now we’re getting STRONG “beating who you should, and not who you shouldn’t” vibes. In other words, they are who we thought they were.
Key games: Beat Wayzata 10-7, lost to BSM 13-10, lost to Chan 15-8.
8. Stillwater (6-2): Plays @Woodbury Friday and end season @Lakeville South and vs Edina. That’s not an easy schedule. Clearly in a mid-season slump…you’ll remember they did that last year too. Super balanced scoring with 6 players over 14 points and yet all under 26 points.
Key games: Beat CDH 15-12, beat Rosemount 14-13 in OT, lost to PL 10-8, lost to Park 6-5.
9. Eden Prairie (4-3): Feels like EP needs to be 4-1 for rest of season…and that means they need 2 wins against Tonka, PL, and Blake (along with wins against STMA and Breck).
Key games: Beat Wayzata 10-9. Lost to BSM by 12-9, Edina by 13-10, and Chan by 14-3.
10. Maple Grove (7-0): Play Armstrong 5/10, Blake 5/12, and end the season @ Champlin Park 5/24. There’s a path there to go undefeated for the season. MEGA balanced attack with 7 players in double digit points, but all under 26 points.
Key games: Beat Centennial 11-6, beat Andover 14-3, beat and Elk River Zimmerman 10-9.
11. Gentry (3-0): Until they play some tougher competition, their record and stats are meaningless. Most of the teams they play don’t stream. We may have to get out and see them live…but is it worth it? Simley is their toughest game to end the season. Its getting hard to stand up for this squad when we really don’t want to anyway.
Key games: none
12. Rosemount (4-2): Really bummed out for both teams that their game against ER/Z got postponed due to weather 5/5 – hope that gets rescheduled (hearing rumors maybe reschedule very soon). NEEDS a quality win. Has a three-game stretch @ Edina 5/13, @ Lakeville South 5/16 and vs Prior Lake 5/18.
Key games: Lost to Hill Murray 9-8, lost to Stillwater, 14-13.
13. CDH (6-2): CDH has a light week this week, but then plays Chan and Park next week. Chan is ripe for picking, so that’s turning into a potentially close non-conference, non-section game. Watts 43/10/53 and Rosga 35/17/52 each have more than double the points of the either Stangler sisters (Anna 17/8/25 and Jane 7/10/17). Feels like a scouting report.
Key games: Beat Woodbury 15-8, lost to White Bear Lake 9-8, lost to Stillwater 15-12.
14. Centennial (5-1): Plays Champlin Park 5/10 and ER/Z 5/15. Ella O’Hearn is STILL going at a 6.2 PPG clip, that could be a liability come playoff time if her output gets hampered by some of the better teams and no one steps up to contribute big time.
Key games: Beat Andover 6-3, beat Armstrong 9-8, lost to Maple Grove 11-6.
15. White Bear Lake (6-2): Hardest games left are @ East Ridge 5/17 and @ Mahtomedi 5/25. All things considered, those are still “should wins.” How far can they move up the power rankings with those as the toughest games?
Key games: Beat H-M 12-5, beat CDH 9-8, beat Woodbury 13-10, lost to Park 7-6, lost to Stillwater 12-4.
16. Andover (5-2): Play @Champlin Park 5/8, vs Armstrong 5/17, and @ Wayzata. Defense is where its at with Andover.
Key games: beat ER/Z 5-4, lost to MG 14-3, lost to Centennial 6-3.
17. Park (6-1): Yo…you can’t beat Stillwater AND lose to Woodbury in the same week. @Simley 5/8, @East Ridge 5/12, and @CDH 5/17. Three players in double digit points and then production falls way off. Really curious about that CDH game to square up section 3 seedings.
Key games: Beat White Bear Lake 7-6, beat Stillwater 6-5, lost to Woodbury 12-10.
18. Elk River/Zimmerman (4-2): So…we need a win of consequence. Had a chance @ Rosemount until mother nature said not so fast. Still have chances @Centennial, vs Champlin Park, and @Armstrong. Hopefully they get the Rosemount game back on the books.
Key games: Lost to Maple Grove 10-9, lost to Andover 5-4.
19. Wayzata (5-3): Things are moving very fast for Wayzata, after starting 5-0. Has @BSM 5/8, vs Armstrong 5/12, vs Edina 5/18, and vs Andover 5/23. Only “easy” game is versus Hopkins and they are starting to get a little plucky. Katie Sikorski is leading the way with 29/8/37.
Key games: Beat Champlin Park 8-5, lost to Blake 10-7, lost to EP 10-9, lost to Tonka 15-10.
20. Champlin Park (6-1): OK CP…show us you’re something. vs Andover 5/8, @Centennial 5/10, vs Armstrong 5/15, @ER/Z 5/17, and vs MG 5/24.
Key games: Lost to Wayzata 8-5.
21. Armstrong (5-1): Déjà vu? They were the hot pick and then faltered last year - feels a little the same this year. @MG 5/10, @Wayzata 5/12, @Champlin Park 5/15, @Andover and vs ER/Z 5/24. Concerning.
Key games: Lost to Centennial 9-8.
22. Southwest Christian (8-0): Same as Gentry – not a lot to go off of. Different from Gentry, they’re not pretending to be something they’re not. @Delano/Rockford 5/8, vs Hutchinson 5/11, vs Mounds View 5/15.
Key games: Beat Delano/Rockford 12-9.
23. East Ridge (6-2): Four with over 30 points already (Annika Limpert, Taylor Griffith, Sydney Meyers and Keira Limpert). Tough 4 games stretch for the Raptors…vs CDH 5/0, vs Park 5/12, vs WBL 5/17, vs H-M 5/20.
Key games: Beat Woodbury 6-5, lost to Stillwater 14-3, lost to Mahtomedi 10-9
24. Woodbury (5-3): Five double digit point scorers…including Shelby Marik who has missed the past few games (with what appeared to be a sprained ankle vs CDH). Led by Kate Hooley 20/14/34, Ella Kodl 17/11/28, Liv Mishacoff 17/9/26, and Ali Hoschka 15/8/23. vs Stillwater 5/12 and vs BSM 5/22.
Key games: Beat H-M 9-8, beat Simley 12-11, beat Park 12-10, lost to East Ridge 6-5, lost CDH 15-8, lost to WBL 13-10.
25. Hill-Murray (4-3): Cate Kangas (21/12/33) and Oliva Godbout (20/12/32) lead the way for the Pios. @Blake 5/9, @ East Ridge 5/20.
Key games: Beat Rosemount 9-8, beat Simley 15-14, lost to WBL 12-5, lost to Woodbury 9-8, lost to Farmington 12-11
Others: Mahtomedi (6-2), Farmington (4-3), Bloomington Jefferson (5-3), Chaska (2-3), Buffalo (4-4)
