Shout out to off season lax!

·       Most recently Cabin Fever on 2/26/23 (won by Prior Lake) had 28 different teams!

·       EP Winter League – 11 teams on Sunday nights

·       6s league on NE side of town (Homegrown) – 19 teams on Sundays

Congrats to Section 4 for hosting the state tournament (Stillwater and White Bear Lake).

Last year we were perhaps highest on, in terms of dark horses, Hill-Murray:  predicting them to win the section over Stillwater last year.  Ouch – we missed that (Stillwater beat them 16-5 in section final).  Way too many highly decorated players from the club world on this team for this to happen.

H-M should have, quite honestly, beaten more teams than they did, but Stillwater was the real deal.  Stillwater continues to be stout and adding Gentry to the mix…the world of…lax clubs named after literal animals…is going to continue to crash into itself with these top 4 teams.

Now…let’s chat about the 100 pound gorilla – see what we did there?

Gentry

Sigh.  You have no idea how edited this section is…

Two Rivers/Gentry/Mounds Park Academy combo does a few things:

1.       The co-op previously known as “Gentry”, as it was laid out above, is no longer

a.       From Gentry’s own website:

“The 2022-23 school year will mark the inception of the Gentry Stars hosted girls LAX program. The Gentry student-athletes have participated in various co-ops from 2018-2021 helping win section championships and making it to state. Girls LAX includes 7th-12th grade students”

b.       MSHSL site still lists Gentry Academy co-oping with Mounds Park Academy

                                                               i.      So…they “host” a co-op now, instead of leaching on to another host.  Got it.

ii.      Gentry and Mounds Park Academy co-op, at least, for basketball too.  We assume they co-op with the Gophers for hockey.

2.       Two Rivers HS (formerly the primary co-op partner with Gentry):

a.       Co-oping with the St. Paul co-op.  Mega Combo meal?

b.       Shout out to the “St. Paul Two Rivers Ducks” – can we agree to just call them “The Ducks”?  We can?  Great.

3.       Public/Posted Schedules:

a.       Gentry doesn’t have a schedule for anything besides hockey for their rSchool schedule site…

b.       …Mounds Park Academy doesn’t even list girls lacrosse as a sport on their rSchool schedule…

c.       …MN Lax Hub shows Gentry as having nine away games…that’s it.

d.       East Side Source, during one of our source gatherings, said, paraphrasing:

                                                               i.      Rumored to have 11 games

ii.      Working on getting a couple of home games

iii.      They don’t have a field, except for TCO Indoors (our heart goes out to them)

Listen.  We get it.  Having 124 high school kids (at least what’s reported to MSHSL) can’t be easy, with all the hockey recruiting that needs to be done.  It’s got to be difficult to schedule a full slate of lacrosse games?

Curious that the other schools…how do we say this…with players that “monkey” around with a certain club lacrosse program…don’t have games scheduled with Gentry (looking at schools in the NE side of the metro – you know who you are).  If you don’t get that pun, DM us.

For a moment – let’s address the VERY ALLEGED situation ESS gave us of not having a field to play home games on.  We don’t work in the MSHSL, nor do we pretend to understand their rules (and the ways their rules are…or are not…enforced), but it seems like a fairly decent pre-requisite to having a legit team is having a place to host games.

We hear complaints all the time that no one respects or takes Gentry seriously…so how about this?  Get a full schedule, so we can start talking about you seriously.  We can’t speak for the rest of the crew, but we actually want to see what you are and having a complete and competitive schedule helps having a constructive conversation.  Otherwise, we are left with little usable information and, instead, have to rely on last year’s state championship appearance…and we don’t think that’s all you want us to know about you.

Section Preview

1 – Stillwater (2022 1 seed in section 4, 14-5)

How do you bounce back from losing 9 seniors, including your leading point scorer and a Ms. Lacrosse Goalie contender?

1.       Have 9 of your 12 double digit point scorers (is that good?) return…

2.       …including 6 players (currently) committed to playing in college

3.       a 2025 goalie that has looked real solid in fall club

They beat Gentry 12-7 in the State Consolation Semifinals in 2022.

Plays in HG winter 6s league.

Lost:

Grace Bancroft – 57 points (D2 Grand Valley State)

Hannah Beard – GK 52.0% (D1 Liberty)

Returning:

’24 Maycie Neubauer – 43 points (D2 Florida Southern)

’23 Tori Liljegren – 40 points (D1 Lindenwood)

’23 Ellie Fisher – 33 points (D3 UWEC)

‘23 Avery Lorinser – 24 points (D2 Northern Michigan)

’23 Keira Jelinek – Defender (D2 Rockhurst)

’24 Lydia Glass – 24 points

They had a 2026 make the UA150, lists Stillwater on her Sports Recruits profile, but wasn’t rostered last year as an 8th grader (Indira Capelle).  So…congrats to Indira – we’ll look out for you as a freshman this year!

2 – Gentry (2022 1 seed in section 3, 13-3)

Speaking of losses…what about:

1.       losing all everything Ms. Lacrosse Jalen Rosga (ever heard of her) to Maryland (ever heard of them)

2.       and your coaching staff to CDH (ever heard of them)?

Well - Do pretty much the same as Stillwater with 5 committed players coming back and have 2 freshmen returning that contributed big time last year as 8th graders.

Plays in HG winter 6s league – shout out “Acceleration Northstars”.

Honestly, regarding 2022 Ms. Lacrosse Jaylen Rosga…2g in her first collegiate game for Maryland?  Going through a bump or two now as the season progressed, but still…frickin’ Maryland?  Well done!

Despite having the best lax player in the state and speaking honest here - Kinda disappointed with their performance in the 2022 state tournament.  With all the hype, we expected more than 0-2 out of the 2022 edition.

For the record, we have not heard of any existing Gentry players transferring to CDH (or anywhere)…the coaches are taking their talents to CDH…and the HC’s youngest daughter is a certified problem on the lax field…and will be if she plays HS lax in MN (or anywhere).

Lost:

Jalen Rosga – 124 points (D1 Maryland)

Brooke Tjernlund – 33 points (D2 Missouri Western)

Laine Stanton – 18 points (D2 Anderson)

Olivia Lilla – GK 50% - split time with Ava Davis

Returning:

’23 Eva Anderson – 68 points (D1 Kent State)

’24 Amelia Weiss – Defender (D2 Alabama – Huntsville)

’24 Lauren Deering – Defender (D1 Iona)

’24 Bella Munz – 34 points (D1 George Mason)

’26 Ava Davis – GK 59.1%

’26 Samantha Hohn – 61 points (as an 8th grader - wow!) – Shout out on UA150

’26 Alayna Deering – 45 points (as an 8th grader - wow again!)

’24 Sofia Watts – 32 points

New/Returning:

’24 Ella Berg – Injured in 2022 (D1 Louisville)

·       She could be the real deal – like “might be able to fill a lot of the production from losing Ms. Lacrosse” real deal

·       Has all the off season accolades you can imagine

·       Really want to see her play some games in MN

3 – Mahtomedi (2022 3 seed in section, 7-8)

First off – we really wanted to take H-M here.  However, Maht will muck things up just enough to let their D1 commit (McKenna Cunnington – Oregon) score in bunches…and they were probably already looking REALLY big in Hill-Murray’s rearview mirror.

Can’t wait for H-M to go 11-2 in the regular season now…

Lost:

Lily Chuhel – 9 points

Returning:

’23 McKenna Cunnington – 70 points (D1 Oregon)

’24 Evi Cegielski – 34 points

’25 Reese Sanger – 24 points

’25 Addie Demars – GK 54.3%

4 - Hill-Murray (2022 2 seed in section, 8-8)

We can’t quite quit you.  Three top players are back (including 2 D1 commits), but they lost their very good goalie.  We get it that one of your three superstars didn’t play for half the year, but come on.  Some of the losses last year do not make a lot of sense.

Plays in HG Winter 6s league

Lost:

Sutton Ellis – GK 53.5%

Caroline Given – 25 points

Olivia Katz – 22 points

Returning:

’23 Cate Kangas – 48 points (D1 Louisville)

’24 Olivia Godbout – 18 points in 9 games (D1 Lindenwood)

’25 Frannie Primoli – 20 points – Shout out on UA150.  Also was P-Mac’s top 2025 at one time because of her name.

’25 Sophia Sampson – 20 points

5 - White Bear Lake – we see you returning almost all of your offense and your goalie.  Go catch the private school and make us talk about you.
